‘It’s music and we came to play instruments’: teaching for engagement in classroom music

This paper presents findings from ethnographic case study research that investigated teacher practices and student engagement in classroom music. The data collection was undertaken a primary (elementary) secondary school Australia focussed on the practice of two teachers four classes students aged 10 to 16 years. invited participate had been identified as being influenced by Musical Futures approach following their participation professional learning workshop. draw participant-observation music lessons, interviews, focus groups.
